Brief explanation of Mechanics

Sure. I will try to be brief in the explanation so it may appear “combat” heavy, but combat is the most mechanical aspect of the game. Building or playing adventures makes use of 4 component types in a system I’ve labeled CAPE. Combat, Alternative, Puzzle, and Exploration Explaining the components backwards: Exploration encompasses all role

Here are the things Players are saying!

For many of us parents, the Holy Grail of game design is the child-friendly RPG. With Power Outage, Bebarce El-Tayib has launched a well-equipped expedition upon that sacred quest, which demonstrates that his love of gaming is only matched by his love of children. But it’s left for you, the players, to imagine how it will end!

I can not praise how much work, love, and commitment went into developing this game. It is clear on every single page. Nowhere do I see unused space that hopes to have images one day. The book is full of side bars, helpful tips, breakdowns of RPG-stuff for newcomers, and more. The designs of everything have also been improved with a simple but crisp look throughout. Everything has simple color coding and symbols associated to help discern what things are and what they relate to. Moreover the book progresses smoothly through introducing itself, what the game is like, how to play, character creation, powers, and lore.

The game is exactly what it markets itself as: a kid-friendly, kid-focused roleplaying game. It uses easy addition mechanics and greater vs lesser rolls, a simple power system, and provides a number of tips and tools (as well as external resources) to run a game that is accessible for children across the board.

Power Outage is among a growing number of kid-friendly games designed to bring children into the hobby, but it’s also so much more than that. It’s a unique game with a flexible system, it’s a guide for parents and educators of children with disabilities, and it’s a humorous read. Few games have gripped me so thoroughly from the get-go as this one. From its simple but powerful storytelling system to its helpful guidance, I love virtually everything about this book. It is a strong recommendation to everyone who has ever considered running an RPG for kids, as well as anyone who just enjoys a good RPG to read.

Bottom line, I’d heartily recommend Power Outage to anyone looking for a simple supers game, and especially to anyone looking to play a TTRPG with kids. It’s clear that effort went into it, and it’s very well written and does well what it sets out to do. I expect Power Outage to do well, and I’d be disappointed if it didn’t. If it sounds remotely interesting to you, you should pick it up when it becomes available.

Born from creator Bebarce El-Tayib’s own family experience, Power Outage is a well-regulated RPG with uniquely customizable play for an expansively inclusive all-ages experience. Instead of drowning the players in rules, the game presents a carefully formulated system set up by the GM to ensure the challenge level cannot overwhelm.

Even if you are not interesting in playing with kids or even the system, I would still implore that you kick a few bucks Power Outage's way because it is a quality system with a lot of thought put into it , and it is important to the hobby to be able to allow younger children to play too. And there is no one else I would entrust that quest with more than Bebarce El-Tayib, the Mr. Rogers of tabletop RPGs.

Power Outage is easy to learn and easy to play, it looks fun for both sides of the GM’s screen, it has a varied setting to tell stories in, and you’ve got a creator who’s dedicated to growing and improving it.
